Join as a Cadet

If you are aged between 13 and 18 you can join the Air Training Corps as a cadet and participate in activities that are unrivalled by any other youth organisation. Getting involved is simple, use the Squadrons section of this website, it can be found on the West Mercian Wing menu, and browse to your local squadron's page where you will find details of how to contact them and where and when they meet. All you need to do then is telephone the squadron or call in to see them on one of their parade evenings. You are guaranteed a warm welcome but if it makes you feel happier why not take a friend along.

If you enjoy your visit and decide that you would like to join the ATC you will be given some paperwork for your parents to complete. Once the paperwork is complete and returned to the squadron you will be accepted as a probationer cadet. You will spend your first weeks attending the squadron in your civilian clothes while you are taught the basic knowledge required of an Air Cadet. After this time you will be issued with your uniform free of charge, although you will be expected to supply an appropriate pair of black shoes or boots and maintain your uniform to a high standard. You will begin training for your First Class cadet examination, which once passed, will enable you to go swimming. From this point what you get out of the Corps depends on how much put in.

If you need further assistance in locating your local squadron contact Headquarters West Mercian Wing on 01902 377211. If you live outside the West Mercian Wing area the Air Cadet website will help you to find a squadron in your area.
